Bible Study: Remaining Close to God
Remaining Close to God
-Maintaining when the feelings aren’t there-
Teens For Christ – Chad Peterson
1. Continue loving Jesus
- Love – choice, commitment, feeling
- Die to self (Galatians 2:20)
- Commit to the basics of the Christian life: (These make up three legs of the “stool” of the Christian life)
- Read Bible
- Prayer
- Relationship w/ God & others
- #1 reason Christians don’t serve God fully is because they lack quiet times
2. Refuse to join the uncommitted
- We are a lighthouse to the unsaved, we provide light to steer them in the right direction so they don’t crash
- Micah 6:8
- If we don’t do what the Word of God commands, why do we expect the promises?
- What is the largest spectator event in America? It’s not football, baseball, or any sport. It happens every Sunday when people sit in the pews doing nothing; a part of nothing.
3. Never stop growing
- Don’t “freeze” or plateau (1 Peter 2:2-3)
- Be careful of false teachings (1 Thessalonians 5:21 & Philippians 1:9-11)
- Read the Scriptures, biographies of strong Christians, Apologetics
- Does God occupy your life, or are you preoccupied with the things of this world?
4. Get excited about fruit, not programs
- It’s easy to get lost in a program, and forget an individual’s needs.
- Are we seeing souls saved?
- Get excited when you see God at work and join Him in that work.
5. Establish a Christian world view
- Learn what God says about contemporary issues
- What are the roots of our assumptions, thoughts of rights, and perspectives?
- Offer alternatives to what the world offers (Ephesians 5:15-17)
- Limit TV & secular music
- Learn from others
- Deuteronomy 6:5
