This weekend has been been fantastic! It started off early Saturday morning. I was on my way to Trinity Baptist Church in Maplewood for a morning of helping with Bible Quizzing and I picked up a friend who was going to chill with me for the day. My “duties” at the Quizzing tournament were to put together and run the slides for worship and the message. I also volunteered to help with electronic scoring of bracket quizzes and the championship quiz. I really enjoyed this scoring – it was easy, fun, and it gave me a chance to see the devotion of many teenagers who have made it a priority to memorize and put God’s Word in their hearts! What a inspiration to me!
After finishing at Trinity, I went over to this same friend’s house and we hung out for the rest of the day. The family invited me to stay the night since I was going to go to the Church they attend this morning with them. Last night we watched the movie Braveheart which was interesting but had a lot of blood and violence. And these things coupled with the fact that one of my friend’s sisters had the annoying tendancy to speak out loud what was about to happen in the movie. And, of course, she would reveal these details at just the moments where suspense was building, but then it got crushed because she gave things away. But, whatever, I do forgive her for those small things.
Also last night I had a potentially life-changing conversation with this friend as we lay in our make-shift beds trying to fall asleep. I’ve found a lot of ministry opportunities come at this odd, but beneficial time. So, we were talking and he mentioned for a while about how he thinks people sometimes go about life only doing meaningless things and not talking about deeper things. And this is the most sad for Christians! As he was saying these things, I was just laying there stunned – this kind of mentality is the exact kind I want in a close friend! And so I thank God that He has brought us together as friends at this time in our lives. I’m really looking forward to spending more time with my friend talking, chilling, whatever.
Yeah, it’s been a good weekend. Looking ahead to this week, I’m a bit nervous. I’ve got this big MLA test in Comp II on Tues. and an American Gov test on Wed. I would really appreciate prayer for these two tests, especially the MLA one, and for life in general. Thanks so much for reading my posts and I pray you will have a good week!
